Eastwood

A vibrant community in the heart of Edmonton

Our AGM is going online

We're thrilled to set a new date for our members' annual meeting  and to begin the work for programming in the upcoming year.

Eastwood Community League Annual General Meeting

DATE: Tuesday, February 23
TIME: 7:30 p.m.
FORMAT: online

We'll be reviewing the past year with all its challenges, and taking a look at what's coming up for us and our community. Watch for an invitation for the video-conference link in the coming two weeks.

Welcome to Eastwood, a vibrant community conveniently located close to Edmonton's downtown core and its picturesque river valley.

A historic and beautiful neighbourhood with mature Elm and Ash trees adding to the greenery of our walkable residential streets, Eastwood is full of character and home to some of Edmonton's best local dining and festival experiences.

Our neighbourhood also has several parks and schools, making it ideal for families. And Eastwood's central location makes it easy to connect to major roads and public transit, including LRT.

Our community league is guided by volunteers who live and work in the neighbourhood. Our community is your community! Attend one of our events, become a member or volunteer with us - we'd love to get to know you.

We acknowledge that the land on which we are located is Treaty 6 territory and

a traditional meeting ground and home for many Indigenous peoples, including Cree, Saulteaux, Niitsitapi, Métis and Nakota Sioux Peoples.

We're making a mosaic tile mural and need your help!

We'll be following all COVID-19 precautions.

Snow Removal

We've been approved a grant from the City of Edmonton to offer free snow removal this winter. If you are a senior or a person with limited mobility, we're taking applications.

Enrollment will be limited, so apply early.

We're adding a mural to the exterior of Eastwood hall.

We need hands-on people to work with our artist to make it happen.

Workshops are happening February through April.

If you'd like to help create the design or assemble the actual mural, get in touch with us at info@eastwoodhub.org or 780-477-2354.

We're looking for new board members

Our board has a vacancy for the following positions:

  • Secretary

  • Treasurer

  • Vice President

Being on a community league board is a great way to contribute to your community. Many of Edmonton's ward councillours and even our mayor started out as board members with their community league.

Open new doors, be part of your community league's board!

Send us a brief resumé or get in touch at 780.477.2354 or info@eastwoodhub.org

About Eastwood and

Eastwood Community League

Development in Eastwood began in 1906, making it one of Edmonton's oldest neighbourhoods. After WWII, as Edmonton became an important centre of industry, commerce, and a gateway to the North, Eastwood and adjacent neighbourhoods grew rapidly and contained a healthy mix of residential and commercial development.

As the city initially expanded suburban development, it was common for families to leave core neighbourhoods like Eastwood and relocate to these new, modern locales. However, as the decades have passed, this trend has reversed. Many people are now seeking out our community because of its character, history, and central location.

Today, revitalization efforts and renewed investment from homeowners and commercial stakeholders have reinvigorated this historical community. Eastwood is being rediscovered by Edmontonians as a fantastic place to live and grow a family!

Eastwood Community League was established in 1923, and has a long history of community-building and engagement. Our goal is to build a sense of community among Eastwood neighbours, and to build support for our local businesses. So, join us at one of our events, eat at a local restaurant, or invite your neighbour over for a barbeque.

After all, this is Eastwood. It's your neighbourhood, and it's a great place to live!

COVID-19 update

Stronger, mandatory public health measures have been announced. Effective January 12, all indoor social gatherings – public and private – are prohibited. Outdoor social gatherings are limited to 10 people. Other new restrictions are in place until further notice.

We're making the following adjustments:

  • Our community hall is closed to the public for in-person services and for board meetings

  • Public skating at our outdoor rink will continue with limited capacity, which includes a max of 25 people for free-skate (10 people per cohort), no team sports such as shinny hockey and temporary closure of the rink building

  • Eastwood Community League is still in working mode, and taking all messages, phone calls and requests

AHS is asking that residents limit the number of their cohorts to 3. For most people this means their household, their school and a program such as yoga or a sports team.
